Day 1

So our family was preparing our backyard for Hurricane Irene when we discovered an unexpected guest lodging in the wooden spokes of a moldy umbrella.

After googling for some information on the single light blue egg buried in the nest, we decided the mother, currently nowhere to be seen, would look something like this:

Eastern Bluebird (Sialis sialis)

We've moved the nest to a safer place where it will hopefully be safe from wind and rain. We're also hoping that the egg's mother will return and easily find her relocated home. We'll also be keeping a harmless tab on this mother and egg and we'll add pictures daily.
